Google Chrome

I have been using Gooogle Chrome for three days now and have come to several conclusions:

Speed:

Chrome starts much, much faster than Explorer 7 or Firefox 3.01. When I start Explorer on my Windows XP machine with 2 GB of memory, it seems to take about four or five seconds. Firefox starts a little bit slower initially, but will start  immediately after the program has been opened at least once. Chrome starts quickly within 2 or 3 seconds every time--all the time.

  • Mozilla Firefox 3: ☆☆☆
  • Explorer 7:

  • Size:

Chrome downloaded very quickly! Firefox is a bit larger program. And of course, Explorer is the mammoth of all browsers.

  • Google Chrome: ☆☆☆☆☆
  • Mozilla Firefox 3: ☆☆☆
  • Explorer 7:

  • User Interface (UI):

Chrome is sleek, simple, and free of clutter. Chrome may be hard to use for novice computer users, but has a very short learning curve. Firefox allows users to alter the UI to meet their own needs and desires. Explorer 7 has a sleeker UI than previous versions, but but not as intiutive. On my mini-laptop, Explorer 7 still takes up too much real estate. With Firefox, you can use an add-ons to make the UI more compact, thus increasing real estate. However, Chrome is the least cluttered with the most browser real estate.

  • Explorer 7:

  • Add-Ons | Extensions | Themes | Plugins:

The only add-on I have used for Explorer is the Google Toolbar. Chrome, so far, has almost no add-ons, extensions, themes, or plugins. However, Firefox has hundreds if not thousands of tools that you can use with your Firefox browser for free. Here is a short list of my favorites:
  • Mozilla Firefox 3: ☆☆☆☆☆
  • Google Chrome: ☆☆☆
  • Explorer 7:

  • Google Documents:

Google Documents works OK with Explorer 7 and Chrome. However, users are able to to more easily able to edit formats, especially tables, if you are using Firefox 3.0.

  • Mozilla Firefox 3: ☆☆☆☆☆
  • Google Chrome: ☆☆☆
  • Explorer 7:

  • Overall Summary:
    • Mozilla Firefox 3.0: ☆☆☆☆☆
    • Google Chrome: ☆☆☆
    • Explorer 7:
I will continue to use Firefox as my default browser for work. However, if I just want to browse casually on the Web, then I will probably use Chrome.

So, what experiences have you had? My review in this post is about the English versions of Chrome and Firefox. I use the Japanese version of Explorer 7. Have you found any differences between the English and Japanese version of Chrome or Firefox?

    2008/09/07: UPDATE

Please be aware that Chrome is strictly a beta version (開発途上にあるソフトウェアなどのうち、ほぼ完成に近い段階にあるもの). There are some security issues that still need to be worked out. If you plan on doing online shopping or banking, I would suggest that you use Firefox 3.0 for sometime longer. Just FYI. :-)

I have been trying the Chrome too. It is much faster, and I like the tabs more. But it has another flaw editing html. For some reason I can not insert html in the start or middle of any code, it automaticly puts it at the end. For now I am using Chrome for surfing and Firefox for editing

Here, here. I basically use Chrome and Firefox the same way as you. Chrome is especially sweet for the laptop when I'm hooked up to a wireless modem/cell phone.
