Happy Birthday to Maurice Senda (80)

I was in elementary school the first time I came across Maurice Sendak's monsters in his classic book, Where the Wild Things Are. The book was first published in 1963 to very mixed reviews. Although it won the Caldecott Medal winner for 1964, some psychologists and parents thought the book was too violent for young children. We children did not agree! Where the Wild Things Are has become a classic favorite of young and old alike. Happy birthday to Maurice Sendak, who turns 80 today (June 10th).
