Charlton Heston
Mr. Charlton Heston passed away today. I am sure that many of my students remember him from the movie The Ten Commandments. Some students may even remember him from his Oscar-winning role in Ben Hur.
Most of my younger students probably don't even know who Mr. Heston was nor have had the chance to see his movies. I hope they will take the time to see some of his movies on DVD--at least the Ten Commandments and Ben Hur. These were epic movies of the 20th century. These were movies that were made before the special effects of computer digitization. In those days, the greatness of the movies was the result of the greatness of the people who made them--as opposed to the processor speed of modern special effects houses subcontracted by modern Hollywood studios.
Do you have a favorite Heston scene or movie? How many of you remember him from the cult movie, Planet of the Apes?
This is my favorite scene being performed by Charlton Heston.
Do you have favorite actor who has passed away? Is there a Japanese actor who had the same impact on Japanese society as Heston had on American society? Let me know in your next class or leave a comment on this blog.
