Is your hard drive getting fuller and fuller? I downloaded this free utility to scan my hard disk drive to find the biggest files that I don't need anymore. I was able to clear nearly 5 gigabytes of old files I didn't need anymore.
It is also nice to be able to visually see in graphic form what programs are taking up the most space on my hard drive.
The WinDirStat utility is free and made available under the GNU General Public License.
WinDirStat lets you find all your files, large and small, hidden in sub-sub-directories. Trying to do the same thing using Windows Explorer would be very tiring--you would have to expand and collapse directories over and over or view the "Properties" of the directories. This is where WinDirStat helps!
Unfortunately, WinDirStat is not available in Japanese. If you are a student at アンミ英会話教室、I will be very happy to show you how to use the program in our next class.

指定ドライブ内でのファイルやフォルダの占有率をグラフ表示「WinDirStat」
拡張子ごとのファイル総容量をパネル型グラフでランキング表示する機能も
指定したドライブまたはフォルダ内における、ファイルやフォルダの占有率をグラフ表示する「WinDirStat」v1.1.2が、10月10日に公開された。Windows 95/98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003に対応するフリーソフトで、現在作者のホームページからダウンロードできる。
「WinDirStat」は、ハードディスクを圧迫しているフォルダやファイルの種類を手軽にチェックできるソフト。まず起動後に、パソコン内のドライブまたはフォルダを指定しよう。すると、3ペイン画面の左上ペインにフォルダツリーが表示され、指定したドライブ・フォルダ内における、各ファイルやフォルダの占有率をグラフと数値で確認できる。このとき、フォルダツリーを展開してサブフォルダを表示すれば、親フォルダ内における、ファイルや子フォルダの占有率も確認可能。
また右上ペインには、指定したドライブ・フォルダ内に保存されているファイルの総容量を拡張子単位で分析し、各拡張子のファイル総容量をランキングで表示してくれる。さらに下ペインでは、そのランキングがパネル型のグラフで表示され、色分けされたパネルの面積比でファイルの占有率を視覚的に確認できる仕組み。たとえば、もっとも占有率の高い拡張子のファイルは青色、占有率2位は赤色、3位は緑色、4位は水色、5位は紫色、6位は黄色、7 位以下は灰色のパネルで表示される。
そのほか、フォルダツリーとパネル型グラフは連動しており、フォルダツリーでフォルダを選択すれば、選択フォルダ内のファイル占有率をパネル型グラフ上で確認できる。
